Social Classes and Government
Hierarchy-A Style of Government in which their is a Social ladder or class system
The city of Constantinople had an Emperor which had supreme power and was guided and graced by god. He was a symbol of religion, not a part of religion like the pope was in later societies. The Emperor and his advisers were the highest class. The Next class was made up mostly of military officers and large land owners. The Lower class of Craftsmen and Artisans were in charge of supplying those that were higher up on the class system. Their was a group called the Clergy men, who worked in the church, and they were able to afford some luxuries and so they were spread out between the multiple classes.

Education
Education was determined by the class that the family of the child was in.
Kids of artisans or craftsmen were the lower class so they did not attend school. Instead of school they went into apprenticeship for their families’ particular skill. This kept the lower class as the lower class.
Wealthy daughters were told to learn the work of a mother. This consisted of learning how to work around the house and how to raises children. Wealthy sons were sent to theoretical school where they learned ideals instead of practical skills. As they got older they typically went on to a university where they learned practical skills like languages such as Greek and Latin. They continued to learn philosophy and they began to learn law. This system did not allow many technological advances.

Religion
Christianity became the national religion for Constantinople in AD380
The emperors of the city had a motto that said:
"one god, one empire, one religion"
The religious services were therefore very extensive and in depth.
Religious holidays led to events such as parades. These holidays were a festive time where both the rich and the poor could enjoy the entertainment, but they could also all enjoy the feast because the emperors gave immense amount of food to the restaurants so that the poor could also enjoy the feast for the holidays.

Overview
Living in Constantinople was a cake walk for the rich but not so much for the poor. The rich were able to afford countless luxuries and enjoy everything that the city had to offer. Saying that however, the poor were treated to some luxuries by getting gifts from the emperors and enjoying religious holidays. These actions were meant to ensure that the poor would be content with their conditions to try to ensure the lack of a revolution.
